What We Do - Cancer Info Libraries
Thirteen years ago, we lost our daughter to a rare form of cancer. At that time, Jennifer was 30 and just beginning her life. Throughout our two-year struggle to save her, we found ourselves lost without any available information that could help her. This forced me to do my own research, with limited guidance and a scarcity of publicly available resources. A few days before she passed, I sat with Jennifer and discussed my frustrations. She asked me to try to help others with cancer using the knowledge that I had gained through our experience. I promised her that I would, and that promise is being kept.
In 2002, the Jennifer Diamond Cancer Foundation (JDCF) was formed and on January 1, 2004 became a 501(c)(3) public charity, providing the knowledge and tools, free of charge, for all those suffering with cancer and their families. Our foundation began by providing our local communities with newly designed cancer information libraries. These learning and healing centers are set within a relaxing, supportive environment and are fully equipped with hundreds of the latest books and videos on cancer and the most current treatments. Specially equipped personal computers are also available for targeted Internet searching and trained research librarians are there to help.
We now have seven volunteer-staffed libraries operating in California with more to come. These libraries are located within hospitals and cancer support centers throughout the state.
