Events & Fundraisers - 2006The Jennifer Diamond Cancer Foundation Honors Novartis and GlaxoSmithKline at 4th annual Black Tie Gala Dinner ![]() The Jennifer Diamond Cancer Foundation honored the pharmaceutical companies GlaxoSmithKline and Novartis as co-recipients of the Jennifer Diamond Cancer Foundation's "Triumph" award at their 4th annual Black Tie Gala Dinner on Saturday, October 7, 2006 at the Sheraton Universal Hotel in Universal City, CA. Master of Ceremonies for the evening was co-anchor of NBC4 morning news show "Today in LA", Chris Schauble. Accepting the "Triumph" award on behalf of GlaxoSmithKline, the makers of Zofran, a drug that severely lessons the side effects of chemotherapy, was Vice President of Sales, GlaxoSmithKline Oncology Division, Mr. Charles J. Flannery. Accepting on behalf of Novartis, the makers of Gleevec, a successful drug in the fight against Chronic Myeloid Leukemia and G.I.S.T. (Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumors) were Dr. Laurie Letvak, head of Gleevec and Tasigna Global Medical Affairs, and Dr. William Sellers, Global Head Oncology, Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research. The "Triumph" award is given to those organizations or persons who aspire to advance the sciences in cancer research and development. ![]() The program for the evening included a VIP cocktail partyand a very successful silent auction and live auction which included an autographed Neil Diamond guitar. Entertainment was provided by comedian Norm Crosby and Sharky & The Babes provided the music. Honorary Committee members include: Neil Diamond, Scott Hamilton, Mindy Sterling, Esai Morales, Lainie Kaxan, Peter Greenberg, Telma Hopkins and Martin Landau. |
